Talen Claims 2020 USA Optimizer Award
Each year, USA presents the Optimizer Award to recognize the member utility that best leveraged its membership by achieving the greatest net savings and avoided costs through proactive engagement in the various Alliance opportunities. In 2020, Talen Energy was all-in, amassing more than $9.2M in documented savings through use of USA’s programs and contracts. This represents an amazing return on investment of $59.96 for every dollar invested in USA membership. “This is not only an excellent job on overall savings and value for Talen, it also shows the huge impact one specific opportunity championed by a single individual at a member station can provide for all of our members.” said John Christensen, President and CEO of USA. “Congratulations to everyone at Talen for earning this award.”
Special appreciation goes to Bob Rose, Scientist/Engineer and the team in Nuclear Fuels at Talen. Recognizing an opportunity to leverage savings through fleet collaboration, Bob demonstrated leadership and keen technical acumen to achieve multimillion dollar savings in UF6 conversion for Talen and other participating USA members. “Winning the Utilities Service Alliance Optimizer Award this year is an honor not only because it affirms the power of our relationship with USA, it’s also another one of the reasons Susquehanna Nuclear has remained competitive with natural gas plants in the power generation market,” said Talen Energy Susquehanna’s Chief Nuclear Officer Brad Berryman. “I’m sure we’d all agree 2020 was an immensely challenging year for every one of our members. Contracts with USA vendors, paired with our internal innovation program, has driven our cost per megawatt/hour to best in class. Thanks, USA.”
