State Democrats support Columbia
During the last weekend in September, the Washington State Democratic Central Committee, representing all state Democrats, passed resolution 786 supporting Columbia Generating Station.
“We acknowledge [Columbia Generating Station] as a critical part of low-carbon electrical power generation in Washington state and the Pacific Northwest,” the resolution said.
Drafted by local scientist Jim Conca and Benton County Democrats, the resolution was the most debated of 40-odd resolutions considered, according to co-author and party member Chuck Lo Presti. “Delegates from the 8th Legislative District Democratic Organization and Benton County spoke ably,” Lo Presti said, “and discussing nuclear power issues afforded a great learning experience for all the assembled Democratic leaders.”
