The Association of Washington Business has nominated Energy Northwest as a finalist for Employer of the Year.

The Employer of the Year award recognizes an employer who has implemented innovative job retention, creation, benefits, and/or compensation plans that foster a thriving work environment. Energy Northwest is being considered for its work with hiring veterans and its outreach to students studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

“There is a strong relationship between the military, STEM education and commercial nuclear power,” said Kelley Ferrantelli, Human Resources recruiter, who submitted the nomination application. “We have found great team members from all branches of the service and our regional education partners who have strengthened our organization.”

EN staff maintains regular communication with local and regional veteran representatives, bases, transition offices and service members directly for transition opportunities. EN actively participates in local and regional career fairs and other events supporting veterans.

Energy Northwest was also named a 2016 Military Friendly Employer for its efforts in recruiting veterans. Steve Lorence, Human Resources manager, said criteria for the designation include a benchmark survey score across key programs and policies, such as the strength of company military recruiting efforts, percentage of new hires with prior military service, retention programs for veterans, and company policies on National Guard and Reserve service.

Based on EN’s responsiveness to creating and filling high-demand, high-growth occupations in science, technology,  engineering and mathematics, the 2016 STEM Jobs-Approved Employers list ranks Energy Northwest among the nation’s top five STEM jobs-approved employers.

The Employer of the Year award will be announced during a black tie ceremony honoring business leaders across the state Nov. 30 in Seattle.
